I must admit I have always wanted my cats to somehow be able to enjoy the outdoors, but in a way I could know they were safe. We live in an apartment in the heart of Boston, right between the train tracks and a major highway. It’s definitely not an ideal place to let your kitties roam free. But, when I learned that Purina Pro Plan declared June 15 National “Take Your Cat on an Adventure” Day, it got me thinking about how we live just steps away from a bike trail and park. What if I took one of the boys on their own adventure?

Purina Pro Plan announced its initiative to encourage all cat owners to take their feline friends on an adventure and gathered up some of our favorite friends from Instagram, including @adventurecatsorg, to demonstrate a “cat walk” in New York City’s Central Park. What an awesome way to keep your cat healthy, adventurous and active!

I knew if I was going to do this, the first thing I needed was a harness and a leash. I definitely did not want to take any of the cats outside without knowing they could not slip away from me. I borrowed an adorable pet stroller from a friend who never uses it and decided to take Ben for his first adventure on a warm spring day. Ben is probably the boldest and bravest of the TuxedoTrio. He is definitely our alpha male and the oldest of the bunch, so it only made sense to let him have some fun in the sun first. The only times Ben has ever left the apartment in the past were to visit the vet, so I wasn’t sure how he’d react. He meowed a little on the walk to the park, but seemed more excited than anything else.

Once we got there, he took in the fresh air and really seemed to enjoy himself! We sat by the water for a while, just listening to the birds chirping and enjoying the sun on our faces.

Before heading home, we took a detour and sat on a bench for a bit. All in all, I would have to say our first adventure to the park was a huge success!

I’m so thrilled I was able to let Ben enjoy the fresh air and springtime weather in our own neighborhood! Have you ever taken your cat on an adventure before? We want to hear about it! What does your furry feline like to do? If taking walks in the park aren’t something you can manage, Purina Pro Plan has a bunch of other ideas on how to create new adventures for your cat—both indoors and outdoors. Check out their website at www.mygreatcatadventure.com and get moving! Don’t forget to post your photos online so we can see them.
